South Carolina is where the Derbyshire Farms is located. South Carolina was the 8th state to ratify the U.S constitution in 1788. They had really good soil there that was used for farming. Lots of slaves were sent from Africa to South Carolina. There were lots of plantations in South Carolina, like the one that Amari worked at. In South Carolina, the plantation that Amari was at was in Charles town, which is now Charleston. South Carolina was full of rice plantations. People would pay more for rice plantations slaves than other plantation slaves. Slavery ended in South Carolina on December 6, 1865.
